| It's been nuts here. We've had 5 days of sunshine the entire month of October. To say my dogs are WILD is a complete understatement. It's so nasty outside they can't get out to play. When they do get out to play, they get so nasty muddy they have to be bathed. Took the boys to two trials this month. Bosco managed to keep the bars up at the ASCA trial to finally get his Novice Jumpers title. He also managed to get a placement in Open Gamblers. With a teeter in the gamble. So awesome. Bosco has come so far from the terrified little dog who wanted NOTHING moving under his feet. Bosco also managed to get another Jumpers leg at the CPE trial we went to at the last minute. Boomer is doing awesome as well. Despite all the confinement, he managed to get a Open Jumpers leg at the ASCA trial. We missed out on our legs on our standard runs by seconds. Boomer and I need to get the lead out. At the CPE trial, Boomer smoked it and got another title and three placements! My mom had her 80th birthday party last weekend. We all went to see her and surprised her. Out of 39 people in the family, 36 people showed up. We had a great time! Kansas was COLD! I got her a signed copy of a book she wanted. I'm really glad I have NOTHING to do this weekend beyond laundry and cleaning up muddy pawprints on the tile, on my sheets, on my furniture, even on the walls, *sigh*... I'll be so glad when this rain ends. | | |
| Boomer had a great time at the CPE Trial last weekend. Bosco couldn't show since he hurt his shoulder and then tore up his pad. So he got to sit and watch. Boomer really sopped up the attention. He really loved being the only dog running. Our first run was standard. We lined up, took off and Boomer ran right out of the ring. I thought "crap, is this the kind of day I'm going to have" and just like that, a switch was flipped and he ran like a champ. Didn't set a paw wrong and brought home two first place ribbons, 1 second place ribbon and a title! Go Boomer!!! Of course we have a picture of Boomer with his ribbons... He will get his title ribbon later. I didn't realize he got his standard title until we got home...
My handsome boy! If we are lucky, Bosco will come off "injured reserve" this weekend and can run next weekend! He was NOT happy to have to sit in his crate and watch. | | |
| Tuesday it was a beautifully cool day here in Texas. Only about 70 degrees, nice breeze, perfect day to take the boys to the field to play ball. The boys ran until they didn't have any run left in them. Couple hours after we got home, Bosco started limping. As the evening progressed, he started limping worse. I gave him part of a painkiller. Next morning, he was worse. Called the vet and they said 48 hours of crate rest. Anyone with a border collie knows that "crate rest" are the two worst words in BC language. Tonight I get home and Bosco is still limping, but is way better. I take him out for a walk. He drops into the grass and starts chewing his foot. When I go to check his foot, his mouth is full of blood and I nearly freaked out. His pad was cut wide open by a piece of glass. I picked the glass off his tongue and carried him in the house and cleaned up his foot. It's now wrapped in a nice big bandage. Needless to say Bosco isn't going to trial this weekend. Keeping him quiet just got a whole lot easier. | | |
| The 3 day drought is over!! It's raining again.. I was starting to worry. The ground was drying out, the mushrooms were growing and the mosquitoes were hatching in droves... I'm so going to be running agility in hip waders this weekend. Should make for an interesting trial... | | |
| Today is the first day in 10 days that it hasn't rained. It's overcast and acting like it might... We are seriously tired of the rain... 11 inches is enough... I did get the boys out a couple of times. Bosco went to class on Thursday and got rid of some yayas... I took both boys out to the barn and did some work last night. This morning we went out to DAWG and did some more work. It was a wee bit soggy, but doable. We met up with a couple of people and worked long tunnels. I think we had 4 clipped together. Both my boys ran right through without a problem. Just as a FYI, it's not normal to have an 80 foot tunnel. The equipment manager for DAWG was trying out some clips to see if they would work and wanted dogs to hit the tunnels hard. My two were happy to oblige. Tomorrow I'm going to volunteer at a trial. I really don't mind doing this, I get "DAWG Dollars" that I can use to pay for agility. I'm all for free agility. The boys have a CPE agility trial next weekend in Frankston. Should be a load of fun! | | |
